Labrador Retriever

Labrador
The Labrador Retriever did originate in North America, but in Newfoundland, not in Labrador as the name implies. And, although the first dogs came from Newfoundland, it was in England where the breed was truly refined, with the first Labradors being shown as a recognized breed in 1903. They were first registered in the U.S. in 1917.

The Labrador's many fine qualities make it not only a great family pet and dependable and sturdy hunting dog, but also ideal for work as guide dogs and in search and rescue.

The coat of the Labrador is short, oily and water-repellent. Colors range from black, yellow (cream to dark red), and light to dark chocolate brown.
